Support Desi Rainbow Saathi this #GivingTuesday!

November 28, 2023 is Giving Tuesday, a global day of giving that takes place annually the Tuesday after Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Help us reach our goal of raising $7,500 for our Saathi program.

A Saathi (friend/peer) is someone who can listen and support you. Desi Rainbow Saathi's are LGBTQIA+ folks and parents/family members who offer their lived experience and empathy to support others on the same journey. It is a unique and unprecedented resource in North America for South Asian immigrants who desperately need support to move ahead with their lives. Our Saathi’s respond with empathy, compassion and patience to these requests.

Sometimes, we all need a friend to listen to our concerns, reassure us and offer us a helping hand with information and support. For many Desi LGBTQ+ folks and for parents and families of LGBTQ folks, that’s not easy to find.

For those who need peer support from someone who has experienced a similar life trajectory, we offer a Saathi (friend), someone who can listen, support and offer referrals. The Saathi program consists of Desi Rainbow volunteers who themselves identify as LGBTQ+ or are parents and family members of an LGBTQ+ child. 

Funds raised for Saathi go towards:
1. Recruitment and training of 24 multi-generational, multi-lingual Saathi Peer Supporters, including ongoing training over the course of the year.
2. Program coordination - managing process, matching of volunteer with request, technical support, evaluation and reporting.
3. Outreach and marketing of the program to the Desi diaspora with materials in different languages.
